Get Involved
- Talk, read and play with your child! You are your child’s first teacher. Interacting with and helping your child explore the surrounding world creates a solid foundation for a life of learning.
- Make math and science fun! Play Yahtzee with your child, take a trip to the Museum of Flight, make cooking an activity about fractions and nutrition –- show your child how math and science can be used in everyday life.
- Actively participate in course selections each semester. Make sure your child takes three or four years of rigorous math and science.
- Be your child’s best advocate. Talk to your child’s teacher about how he or she is doing in school and find out how you can help foster success.
- Encourage your child to take sample WASL tests. It's helpful for your child to get used to the types of questions that will appear on the test.
- Talk to your child about his or her future. Research shows that most “family wage” jobs require at least two years of additional schooling or training beyond high school. Find out what your child needs to do to be college and work ready.
